While in the midst of a heat wave hydration is on everyone's minds but I know that despite how appealing I find a tall glass of crisp clear water, others may need a little pizzazz to meet their body's daily water requirements. So I offer 3 ways to make your water more appealing:
#1 CUCUMBER MELON WATER
Add 6-8 cantaloupe cubes and 4-6 cucumber slices to 2 cups of filtered water. Refrigerate for at least 4 hours to overnight. Strain and enjoy.
I use a wide mouth canning jar for this so I am able to get the fruit and vegetables in and out easily.
#2 WATERMELON MINT WATER
Add 4-6 cubes of watermelon and 4 mint leaves to 2 cups water. Refrigerate for 4 hours to overnight. Strain and enjoy, it is surprisingly sweet!
#3 SPARKLING WATER AND SELTZER COUNT TOO!
In practice I get this question a lot when discussing how much water a person needs to be healthy. Yes, you can count the sparkling water, naturally flavored seltzer water and club soda (not to be confused with tonic water which is very high in sugar or corn syrup and doesn't count) towards your daily water total.
How much water should you be drinking?
A basic rule of thumb is to divide your weight (in pounds) by two. This is the number of ounces your body requires daily. For example a 180 pound man requires 90 ounces of water daily for his body to function well.
If you want a more accurate estimation of your body's water needs:
So, how do you make sure you're getting enough water? Do you have an tips or tricks to make it go down easier? I would love to share your ideas.

If you want a more accurate estimation of your body's water needs:
- Divide you weight in pounds by three, this the minimum number of ounces you need daily
- Then add 8 ounces to this number for every cup of coffee or soda (regular or decaf) you have per day
- Then add another 8 ounces for every alcoholic beverage you have that day
- Then add 8 ounces for every 30 minutes of moderately intense exercise you do that day
